Dr. Mariam Balogun is a UK-trained London-based dermatologist with 14 years of experience and has worked in leading hospitals including the renowned Birmingham Children’s Hospital.
Her passion is managing hair loss and skin disorders, and she can offer both medical and adjunctive treatments. Dr. Balogun gained her medical degree from St. Bartholomew and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry, where she graduated with a distinction in clinical science and honours in molecular therapeutics BMEDSCI. She has received numerous national and international accolades, including from the European Society of Dermatological Research.
Dr. Balogun is well versed in skin surgery with over a thousand surgical hours worth of experience and continues to research hair loss in conjunction with the Centre of Evidence-Based Dermatology in Nottingham. She has carried out further training at the Leading National Centres of Hair Loss and is a fellow of the world-renowned Donovan Hair Academy based in Whistler Canada. She is widely published, sits on the Board of the Journal of Sustainable Dermatology, and is a member of the Royal College of Physicians.
Dr Balogun’s warm and empathic approach using holistic cutting-edge evidence-based methods in the management of skin and hair loss disorders has been at the heart of her success. She is also adept at cosmetic dermatology and offers injectable treatments including dermal fillers, toxins and skin rejuvenation therapies.
Dermatologist with extensive experience across major NHS trusts, including University College Hospitals London and Birmingham Children’s Hospital. She has received comprehensive training in both dermatology and core medical fields such as geriatric medicine, haematology, and acute medicine. Her clinical expertise encompasses the diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of dermatological conditions, with a special interest in addressing the unique skin health challenges faced by individuals of Black and Asian heritage.
In her clinical practice, Dr. Balogun focuses on patient-centred care, tailoring treatment plans to each individual’s needs. She is proficient in managing common skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, and acne, as well as more complex cases involving skin cancer. Her approach includes both medical and surgical interventions, such as skin biopsies, cryotherapy, and minor dermatological surgeries. She also provides long-term management strategies for chronic skin diseases, aiming to improve patients’ overall well-being and quality of life.
Dr. Balogun’s dedication to education is evident in her role as a lecturer at Aston University, where she helps train future dermatologists. She has authored numerous publications on various dermatological topics, contributing to the wider medical community’s understanding of skin health. Her research interests, combined with her clinical work, allow her to stay at the cutting edge of dermatological advancements, ensuring her patients receive the most effective and up-to-date care.
Her leadership extends beyond her clinical and educational work, as she is also the co-founder of the UK Black Dermatologist Network. This initiative reflects her commitment to improving diversity and inclusion in the field of dermatology. Through this network, Dr. Balogun promotes better representation and understanding of dermatological issues affecting people of colour, ensuring that the dermatology profession is better equipped to meet the needs of all patients.
Dr. Balogun works closely with multidisciplinary teams to provide holistic care, often collaborating with oncologists, rheumatologists, and other specialists to manage the systemic aspects of skin diseases.
