Breast Uplift (Mastopexy) at Chase Lodge Hospital
Expert Breast Lifting and Reshaping Surgery in London
Our approach
At Chase Lodge Hospital, breast uplift surgery is performed by Dr Hakan Tekin, a GMC-registered Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon with over 15 years of experience in aesthetic and reconstructive breast procedures. Mastopexy is one of the most personal procedures we offer, and every treatment plan is tailored to the individual patient's anatomy, goals, and life circumstances.
With same-week consultation appointments available at our North London hospital, patients receive consistent, senior-led care from their very first visit through to full recovery. Dr Tekin assesses each patient personally and recommends the most appropriate lift technique based on the degree of drooping, skin quality, and desired outcome, with no set procedure applied uniformly.

What Our Breast Surgery Service Covers
Our breast surgery service covers the full range of uplift, reshaping, and augmentation procedures for the breast. Whether you are concerned about drooping following pregnancy, changes after weight loss, or the natural effects of ageing and gravity, Dr Tekin provides a thorough consultation to establish the right approach for you. The service also includes combined procedures, such as uplift with augmentation, and corrective surgery following previous breast operations.
Conditions and Concerns We Treat:
- Drooping or sagging breasts (breast ptosis) due to ageing or gravity
- Changes in breast shape and position following pregnancy or breastfeeding
- Loss of breast volume or firmness after weight loss
- Nipples or areolae pointing downwards or sitting below the breast crease
- Breast asymmetry where one side sags more than the other
- Flat or elongated breast appearance due to loss of skin elasticity
- Patients seeking uplift combined with augmentation or reduction
Breast Uplift Techniques We Use
Crescent Mastopexy
The crescent lift uses a small, crescent-shaped incision along the upper edge of the areola. It is suited to patients with mild drooping who require only a small degree of repositioning. Because the incision is minimal, the resulting scar is well-concealed within the natural border of the areola. Dr Tekin recommends this technique for patients where subtle correction is the goal rather than significant reshaping.
Peri-Areolar (Donut) Lift
The peri-areolar, or donut, lift uses a circular incision around the entire areola. This technique is well-suited to patients with moderate drooping and also allows the size of the areola to be reduced at the same time. The resulting scar sits along the natural edge of the areola, where it is typically inconspicuous during healing. This approach works particularly well for patients who want a moderate lift without a longer incision line.
Vertical (Lollipop) Mastopexy
The vertical lift uses two incisions: one around the areola and one running vertically down from the areola to the base of the breast. This creates a lollipop-shaped scar pattern and is suitable for moderate to more significant drooping where a greater degree of reshaping is needed. The technique allows Dr Tekin to remove excess skin and reposition the breast tissue more substantially, producing a firmer, rounder result.
Anchor (Inverted-T) Mastopexy
The anchor lift combines the lollipop incision pattern with an additional horizontal incision along the breast crease. This is the most comprehensive technique and is used for patients with significant sagging where the most amount of skin removal and reshaping is required. Whilst the scar pattern is more extensive, incisions are placed carefully along natural skin lines to keep them as discreet as possible. Most scars fade considerably within 12 to 18 months.

FAQs
Am I a suitable candidate for breast uplift surgery?
Good candidates for mastopexy are generally in stable health, at or near a healthy weight, and not currently pregnant or breastfeeding. Suitable patients typically notice their nipples sitting at or below the breast crease, experience drooping or loss of shape, or feel their breasts have become flat or elongated. Younger patients who are planning future pregnancies are often advised to delay the procedure, as pregnancy and breastfeeding can reverse the results. Dr Tekin will assess your individual circumstances during your consultation and advise accordingly.
How is mastopexy different from breast augmentation?
A breast uplift reshapes and repositions your existing breast tissue to a higher, firmer position. It does not add volume. Augmentation, by contrast, increases the size of the breasts using implants or fat transfer without changing their position on the chest. For patients who want both a lifted position and more fullness, a combined augmentation mastopexy can be performed as a single procedure.
Will I have visible scars after surgery?
Some degree of scarring is unavoidable with any breast uplift procedure, as incisions are required to reshape and reposition the breast tissue. The technique used determines the scar pattern: ranging from a small peri-areolar circle to a lollipop or anchor shape for more significant lifts. Dr Tekin places incisions along natural skin lines wherever possible. With proper aftercare, including silicone gel or sheeting, regular scar massage, and sun protection over incision sites, most scars soften and fade considerably within 12 to 18 months.
What is recovery like after a breast uplift?
Most patients stay in hospital for a day and return to light activities within one to two weeks. A supportive bra must be worn day and night for the first two to three weeks. During weeks three to six, lifting heavy objects should be avoided, though gradual increases in activity are encouraged. Proper results typically become visible between four and six months post-surgery. Week by week, you can expect: in week one, some swelling, bruising, and discomfort managed with prescribed pain relief; in week two, stitches are removed and activity can increase gently; and from weeks three to six, sensation returns gradually to the breast and nipple region.
Are the results of a breast uplift permanent?
Mastopexy produces long-lasting results, and many patients maintain a lifted breast shape for ten years or more. However, ageing, gravity, significant weight changes, and future pregnancies can all affect the breasts over time. Maintaining a stable weight and wearing adequate breast support helps preserve results for longer.
What are the risks associated with mastopexy?
As with any surgical procedure, breast uplift carries risks that patients should understand before proceeding. These include temporary or permanent changes in nipple or breast sensation, asymmetry during healing, scarring, swelling and bruising, and a small risk of bleeding or infection. In rare cases, interruption to blood supply can affect breast tissue or the nipple. Dr Tekin discusses all risks in detail during your pre-operative consultation and provides comprehensive aftercare guidance to minimise them.
Can a breast uplift help with back pain?
A breast uplift repositions the breast tissue higher on the chest but does not reduce breast weight. If back, neck, or shoulder pain is caused by the volume and weight of the breasts, a breast reduction procedure or a combined approach may be more appropriate. Dr Tekin will assess your situation and recommend the most clinically suitable option.
How do I book a consultation?
You can book a consultation directly through our website or by calling 020 8358 7100. No GP referral is required. Same-week appointments are available at our North London hospital. During your consultation, Dr Hakan Tekin will assess your anatomy, explain the available techniques, discuss the realistic outcomes, and answer every question you have before any decisions are made.
