Dr Momin Ahmed

Consultant Haematologist

Dr Momin Ahmed is a highly experienced Consultant Haematologist with more than 25 years of experience in the diagnosis and management of both benign and malignant blood disorders. Since 2023, he has been practising as a Consultant Haematologist in Jersey, where he provides specialist care across a broad range of haematological conditions.

Dr Ahmed has particular expertise in the assessment and treatment of anaemia, refractory iron deficiency, myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS), bone marrow failure syndromes and chronic leukaemias. He is recognised for his patient-centred approach, combining evidence-based medicine with personalised treatment plans tailored to each individual’s needs.

After qualifying in medicine in 1996, Dr Ahmed completed a Master’s degree in Medical Molecular Biology at the University of Westminster before undertaking specialist training in Haematology at Barts and The London Hospitals. During his training, he developed extensive expertise in the diagnosis and management of complex blood disorders, including myelodysplastic syndromes, chronic leukaemias and inherited and acquired bone marrow disorders.

Alongside his clinical training, Dr Ahmed completed full-time research towards a PhD at the Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine, University of Oxford. His research focused on red blood cell disorders, molecular haematology and personalised medicine, resulting in more than ten peer-reviewed scientific publications.

Dr Ahmed has held consultant appointments within the NHS, including at the Royal Free Hospital in London, where he established and led specialist anaemia and rare anaemia services. His clinical interests include:

  • Myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS)
  • Bone marrow failure disorders
  • Chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL)
  • Chronic myeloid leukaemia (CML)
  • Myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs)
  • Blood count abnormalities
  • General and diagnostic haematology

He remains actively involved in advancing haematology through research, education and the application of modern molecular diagnostics to improve patient outcomes.

Dr Ahmed is a member of the Royal College of Physicians (RCP), the Royal College of Pathologists (RCPath), the British Medical Association (BMA) and the European Hematology Association (EHA).
