Mr. Vibhash Mishra started in 2010 as a consultant urological surgeon at the Royal Free Hospital, London, where, besides his clinical work, he is closely involved in research, training, and education. He serves UCL as the Lead for undergraduate urological teaching and has been a principal investigator for multi-centre clinical trials. Since 2020, he has continued to serve in the same capacity, further solidifying his role in the hospital.
He completed his urological training on the six-year higher surgical rotational training programme in London, including the last two years as a fellow in Female & Reconstructive Urology at the prestigious Institute of Urology at UCLH, London. Before this, he underwent another four years of urological training at the specialty level, either in London or elsewhere in the UK, which laid the foundation for his expertise.
In his clinical practice, he looks after patients with urinary incontinence, neurogenic bladder dysfunction, UTIs, BPH, haematuria, bladder cancer, and peno-scrotal problems. His focus also extends to gynaecological haematuria and benign prostatic hypertrophy, ensuring comprehensive care for his patients.
His research interests include urinary incontinence and infections, not only because these comprise a significant part of his practice but also because he believes that the evidence base in these areas is poor. He also investigates the determinant factors of urosepsis in children, understanding that these complications have a direct effect on the quality of life for most patients. While cancer is an emotive topic, he emphasises that the suffering of patients with these conditions is no less, and clinicians have a duty of care to them too. Within these fields, he is committed to establishing facts and principles, ensuring patients receive the responsible care they are entitled to.
He believes medicine is as much an art as it is a science and must be practised with compassion, sensitivity, and respect. His interpersonal skills, congenial approach, and ability to listen and connect with patients have earned him a bond of respect and recognition. He considers his easy approachability one of his strengths, allowing him to strike an immediate personal rapport with his patients.
He lives in Watford.
