Endocarditis

It is an inflammation of the inner lining of the chambers and valves of the heart that can be deadly. Endocardium is the name given to this lining.

Endocarditis occurs when bacteria, fungi, or other germs from infections enter the bloodstream and attach to damaged areas of the heart. An artificial heart valve, damaged heart valves, or other heart defects may put you at risk of endocarditis.

If endocarditis is not treated quickly, the heart valves are likely to be damaged or destroyed. There are several treatments for endocarditis, including medications and surgery.
