Staying Safe in Summer: Heatstroke and Dehydration Prevention Tips

Summer brings sunshine, holidays, and outdoor fun — but it also raises the risk of heat-related illness. Heatstroke and dehydration can be serious if not addressed quickly.

Recognising Heatstroke

  • High body temperature
  • Dizziness or confusion
  • Rapid heartbeat
  • Nausea or fainting

Preventing Heatstroke and Dehydration

  • Drink plenty of water, even if you’re not thirsty
  • Wear light, breathable clothing
  • Avoid peak sun hours (11am–3pm)
  • Apply sunscreen regularly
  • Take breaks in shaded or cool areas

What to Do if Symptoms Appear

Move the person to a cool place, hydrate with water or electrolyte drinks, and seek urgent care if symptoms persist.
