Mr Alan Askari is a Consultant General & upper GI Surgeon with extensive experience in the diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of general surgical conditions. He specialises in minimally invasive (keyhole) surgery and offers expert care for gallbladder disease, abdominal wall hernias, skin lesions, and a variety of other common general surgical conditions. His approach combines the latest evidence-based techniques with compassionate, patient-centred care to achieve the best possible outcomes.

Mr Askari graduated from the University of Manchester before completing his higher surgical training in the East of England Deanery. He subsequently undertook advanced specialist training at Cambridge University Hospitals (Addenbrooke’s). He also holds a PhD in Surgery and Cancer from Imperial College London and an MSc in Surgical Science & Practice from the University of Oxford. In addition, he is JAG-accredited in diagnostic upper gastrointestinal endoscopy.

Alongside his general surgical practice, Mr Askari has experience in upper gastrointestinal surgery and minimally invasive bariatric procedures. His expertise in laparoscopic surgery enables many patients to benefit from smaller incisions, reduced postoperative pain, and faster recovery.

Mr Askari has a distinguished academic career, having authored more than 160 peer-reviewed publications and presented his work at over 300 national and international meetings. His research interests include surgical innovation, patient outcomes, service improvement, healthcare data, and artificial intelligence. He is an Honorary Research Fellow at the University of Bedfordshire and Imperial College London and continues to contribute to research, education, and quality improvement within surgery.

Passionate about education, Mr Askari plays an active role in training medical students, junior doctors, and surgical trainees. He regularly delivers educational courses, webinars, and simulation-based teaching and is committed to supporting excellence in surgical practice.
