Dr Freya Cooper is a clinical psychologist with over 10 years of experience of working in the NHS with neurodivergent children, young people, and their families. Highly skilled in the assessment of neurodevelopmental conditions such as Autism, ADHD, and Intellectual Disability, as well as developing psychological formulations for children and young people who do not fit into these diagnostic ‘boxes’ but who would benefit from further understanding of their particular skills and needs.
Freya completed her undergraduate psychology degree, followed by a PhD in Cognitive Neuroscience at Newcastle University. After working as an assistant psychologist in the paediatric oncology unit at the Great North East Children’s Hospital, she completed her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at Teesside University. Since qualifying as a clinical psychologist, Freya moved to London and has spent her post qualification career working with children and young people with neurodevelopmental conditions as well as those with physical disabilities.
Freya is interested in research to further the understanding of issues that tend to impact upon neurodivergent people such as eating and sleeping difficulties. She is currently part of a team exploring the experiences of families seeking understanding and support for their child’s eating difficulties.
Freya is passionate about supporting neurodivergent children and young people, and the adults in their lives, to understand and embrace their unique skills and challenges.
