Dr Freya Cooper Clinical Psychologist is a highly experienced practitioner with over 10 years of experience working in the NHS. She specialises in supporting neurodivergent children, young people, and their families. As a result of her extensive training, Freya is highly skilled in assessing neurodevelopmental conditions such as Autism, ADHD, and Intellectual Disability. In addition, she develops psychological formulations for children and young people who do not fit neatly into diagnostic categories but would benefit from a deeper understanding of their particular skills and needs.
Education and Career Background
Freya completed her undergraduate psychology degree at Newcastle University, followed by a PhD in Cognitive Neuroscience at the same institution. Subsequently, she worked as an assistant psychologist in the paediatric oncology unit at the Great North East Children’s Hospital. Following this valuable experience, she completed her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at Teesside University. After qualifying, Freya moved to London, where she has since dedicated her career to working with children and young people with neurodevelopmental conditions as well as those with physical disabilities.
Furthermore, Freya maintains an active interest in research that furthers understanding of issues commonly affecting neurodivergent individuals. These include eating and sleeping difficulties. Currently, she is part of a team exploring the experiences of families seeking understanding and support for their child’s eating difficulties. Above all, Dr Freya Cooper Clinical Psychologist is passionate about helping neurodivergent children, young people, and the adults in their lives to understand and appreciate their unique skills and challenges.
